Multimedia CD-ROM and Internet

A state of the art multimedia CD ROM has been made which brings the historyof the reivers alive.  The user selects video, animation, interactivemaps, pictures, sound and text to discover some of the forgotten past ofthe borders.  Tourists can plan their holiday using interactive mapswhich show places of interest as well as accommodation and eating places. The pages of information have musical accompaniment by Maddy Prior, SteeleyeSpan and Kath Tickell.

Find out the strange customs of these forefathers of the Border people:the Reiver baptism, the book-a-bosom priest, and the drowning pools. People would burn their house to save it and even the priest took partin reiving.  The vivid sounds and images portray a violent but colourfulpast and the overall presentation of the multimedia display makes thisinto an enjoyable educational discovery.

There are nearly 100 border family surnames such as Armstrongs, Nixons,Elliots, Grahams and the CD allows users to print an enquiry form to sendto Tullie House so their genealogical history can be researched. The CD even contains software to allow users to create their own familytree and draw genealogical charts.  Also included is the text of SirWalter Scott's "Ivanhoe", "The Cannongate Chronicles" and "The Laird'sJock".  Once the user's interest has been stimulated they can usea catalogue on the CD which lists the books, videos and other merchandiseto develop their interest in the border reivers.

The CD has been created by Peter Nicholson &Associates and more developments are planned to use computers tobring history alive.
